Black Hills Tattoo Convention

In September, we took a little road trip to Rapid City for their first annual tattoo convention.  Just to “check it out.”  It was extremely interesting, and way more fun than a business trip has any right to be…. met some cool people, and saw a huge amount of INCREDIBLE artwork.

Kirk and Chris Thomas from Golden Lotus Tattoo

Kirk and I took in Chris Thomas’ seminar on color theory (for Kirk) and marketing (for me); with both of us coming home with lots of ideas.

The highlight of the weekend actually was NOT meeting The Lizardman, but it was a photo op regardless!

Marmarth was EXCELLENT….

So it’s been a few weeks since our excursion to the southwest corner of the state… we can’t say enough about how much fun we had out there.  Business-wise, we had a few technical difficulties with the paints and the high humidity so we didn’t get much painting accomplished.  Instead, Kirk and Joey Fahlsing from In the Flesh Tattoo teamed up both Friday and Saturday nights for the annual “Art Fission” sessions.  2 artists, a pile of charcoals, and a big sheet of banner paper…. the Friday night session lasted until 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
